Michael "Doc" Ray - Bassist & Vocalist:
While only a young lad in the 60s, Michael performed as a street
singer in Springfield, Illinois and other mid-western communities. He
and his cousins would stand at the doorways of restaurants, lounges,
and bars that they were too young to enter. There they performed a
capella renditions of hits by early Rock stars like Buddy Holly, the
Beverley Bros, Fats Domino, as well as R&B hits by the likes of Sam
Cook, Otis Redding, and Sam & Dave. This early street-musician
experience exposed Michael's deep love of "roots" music. It also
provided him the tip money needed to pay for his dates!
In 1975, Michael's devotion to music turned fully professional
when he moved to New York City to play bass and sing in various R&B
and Jazz bands. While there, he studied bass with the legendary jazz
musician, Richard Davis. Soon, he was invited to perform with jazz
masters such as Norman Simmons, Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Owens, and others.
A few years later Michael moved to Los Angeles. Almost immediately he
began working with the very popular Beverly Spaulding Trio. This led
to appearances with other popular artists such as Rickie Lee Jones,
Jimmy Vaughan, and many others.
Michael took a break from his musical career in the late 80s. He
then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and, in 1996, resumed his
career as bassist and singer. Since then, "Doc" (as he came to be
called) has led his own successful groups, including Roadhouse
(Blues-Rock), Fever (R&B), PrimeTime (Jazz), and most recently, Trs
Mojo (Jazz-Funk & World Music). Doc also performs with other notable
Bay Area artists and bands, including Funky World and Cantera
(Latin-Rock), The David Hull Quartet and Joe Louis Walker (Blues), Al
Lazard's New Orleans Review, and many more. Doc also teaches music,
records and produces, and does voice-over work in his San Carlos
studio. He lives in Redwood City with his wife of over 30 years,
Helaine.
Karen Soo Hoo - Songwriter, Vocal, Guitar
Karen begain her musical career as a drummer and has shared the stage with Taylor Dayne, Joan Jett, Train and Chris Isaak among others.
Karen's music is a cool compilation of all that she is. Soulful guitar and lyrics combined with rhythmic diversity lend themselves to her soft edgy vocals. Her fun-loving "work with it, not for it" attitude presents itself beautifully in her work!
Steve Weigant - Songwriter, Vocal, Guitar, Bass
Steve was born under a bad sign at the crossroads in a red house. He grew up near penny lane on a street with very good vibrations. In the midnight hour he got the key to the highway and headed for route 66. His first job was like a highway to hell but back in the USSR the war pigs had the power. So yesterday like a bridge over troubled water he decided to just rock this town. "I can see clearly now and all I wanna do is fight for your right to party. So let it be and don't worry be happy."
